Writing in the ‘Coffee Review’ editor Kenneth Davids recently awarded coffee from the cooperative an outstanding score of 91, enthusiastically noting that this a coffee of “giddy, honey-toned, floral sweetness as fresh but voluptuous as a tropical morning.”

Harvested by the Kalinzi Cooperative, an association of some 2,700 small scale growers in the Kigoma district, the coffee processed in Kalinzi has won numerous prizes and is considered to be the best coffee in Tanzania.

This coffee delivers a sweet-toned aroma with floral and honey notes, gentle acidity, a silky mouthfeel with clean and delicate aftertaste.

Description

The village of Kalinzi and the area around it is the main coffee growing village in the Kigoma District of Tanzania.  Kigoma was an impoverished area near Gombe Stream National Park and has been part of a Jane Goodall Institute Project since 1994, which has worked to give local communities the tools they need to grow their economies and conserve their environment which is home to critically endangered wild chimpanzees.
